Five weeks to go! Five weeks (+/- 2 weeks??) until Hamish and I become parents. Yikes- it is pretty exciting. Real Nappy Week begins next week (24th- 30th of April). Did you know that the average baby wearing disposables creates 2 tonnes of nappy waste until it is potty trained. That waste will not biodegrade for 500 years. I am wondering if that is the best use of God's world? Anita posted at 10:15 am |

Just remember that its only the last couple of decades that disposables have been avaliable. 20 out of 6500 years... hmm.

Mmm not sure I understand your point?

Point being that hundreds of generations survived happily without disposable nappies. Meaning that doing without disposables is good for the enviroment, and not bad for parents.
* says he who's currently reprocessing his garden waste for reuse * lol

Hundreds of generations have survived without lots anf lots of things.
Disposable nappies are a much better fit and therefore keep baby drier and cleaner.
having said that I still haven't made up my mind as to which is 'better'.

Well cloth nappies are cheaper and don't create waste that will clog up our world for generations- therefore you are being a better steward of your money and the enviroment. It is a no brainer really. Having my baby sit in plastic wrapping of pee and chemicals isn't exactly 'clean and dry'.

Why pick on just nappies? What about the waste and excess in the rest of our life?

Exactly. We should be more aware of what we are doing.
Recently became aware of how much organic stuff I was throwing out that could go back into the garden. Would save me money on fertaliser and compost.
This to me is all part of being in dominion of the earth, and being a good steward. Obviously I'm no greeny, but I'm starting to try.
